The TLR-7 is best suited for compact handguns about the same size as a Glock 19. The light fits most handguns of this size and allows you to keep the size of the weapon to a minimum while equipping a light it's kind of silly to Attach a full size light to a compact gun. At this point, you only need to carry a full body gun with a full size light.
The TLR-7 maintains the compact nature of a compact pistol. In my testing, the TLR-7 fits the CZ P10C, Walther P99, SIG 320 compact, and Glock 19. It will probably fit most compact pistols.
A Glock 19 sized firearm is almost universal, and if you can only have one gun, I always suggest a firearm of that size. It's small enough to carry, but big enough to pack a punch. They usually have excellent capacity and offer an accessory rail for lights.
The light has a steady on mode and a momentary mode. Timing is a little different with this design: if you want to use timing, hold the button for more than a second. When released, the light will turn off.
How To Choose A Pistol Light And Why A Tlr 1 Isn't Always The Answer
The 500 lumen light is at a good power point. It is bright enough to use outside on gun ranges, but not so strong that it is difficult to use inside buildings and houses. The 1.5 hour run time would mean that guys and gals using it for their service will probably want to run the batteries every night, but on the nightstand, you'll likely be going for quite a while.
To test the TLR-7, I went to the range with 34 rounds of 124-grain +P ammo, which is the actual ammo I carry on a daily basis, and I wanted to run two magazines through the gun to test a few things. .
First, and most importantly, will the light go out right to withdraw? It's pretty bad if you do a round or two and your light goes out.
Second, will the TLR-7 move up and down the rail? It must be safe and mobile throughout the course of the fire.

To find out if the light is flashing, I put my phone to record and hold it up in front of the gun and the light. I recorded all 34 rounds to see if the light went out, even momentarily, during the course of fire.
The good news is that the TLR-7 performed smoothly and did not flicker or fail in any way. It also stayed locked to my gun and did not bounce up and down the rail.
Next, I wanted to see how long the light actually lasted. I set it up with a full battery and set a timer to turn off every twenty minutes. I can say that the battery lasted a little more than 1.5 hours, but it did so on reduced power. We get at least 1 hour and 50 minutes of life from this model, although the reduced power output makes it really useful only on indoor ranges.
The TLR-7 is IPX-7 rated for submersion up to one meter for 30 minutes. It can operate in temperatures ranging from -40 degrees to over 120 degrees. The TLR-7 can also fit on many rails.
